You may have heard of some of the languages used involving web pages. There’s ASP, PHP, Java, Python, Grail, Ruby, Cold Fusion, and the list goes on. While the professional programmers here at Chavster can use just about any language to help build your web page there are a few reasons we prefer to use PHP in the web pages and web applications we build.

1) It’s Free and Widely Used.

Since PHP is free and powerful it’s easy for internet service providers to offer it at a low price. It can also run on just about any server from Windows to Linux. Unlike PHP, ASP only runs on Microsoft Server environments, Cold Fusion requires the propriety cold fusion server, and Java Server Pages (JSP for short) requires the Java server application. Propriety backends add cost to hosting the site as well as setting up environments for testing. As a result there are more hosting providers that provide PHP and often at a lower cost.

2) Many Web Applications Use PHP.

There are many tools to work with that are already built on PHP. Some of the more common are OSCommerce, Zend, Joomla, Mambo, Dolphine, and phpFox. OS commerce and Zend are used for e-commerce sites while Joomla and Mambo serve as powerful CMS systems. Dolphine and phpFox are two products that allow us to build a social networking site tailored to just about any interest.  While some of these products have counterparts on other backend languages, such as ASP or Cold Fusion, it is often at a greater cost and are often not as widespread or trusted. Having a stable, useful, and trusted base we can work with lowers the development cost allowing us to pass the saving on to you!

3) PHP is very powerful

PHP can connect to Databases in order to store and retrieve information about your products, services, and customers.  That is whats allowed the building of powerful e-commerce sites built on PHP code as well as many CMS and Social networking sites. PHP can also be used to create and work with AJAX code as well as communicate with Java or Flash to produce a truly unique rich web application.
